Alice Wright Obituary

Alice Angelena Sablatura Wright, 82, of Ganado, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the age of 82. She was born on Tuesday, August 17, 1937 in Louise, Wharton County, Texas to Paul and Angelina Vesely Sablatura. Alice was an honor graduate of Louise High School and Wharton Junior College. She received an all-level Vocal Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Sam Houston State College. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Carl, whom she married on Friday, August 8, 1952, two sons; Richard Carl Wright from Bay City, and Paul Allen Wright and his wife Michelle of College Station, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and former daughters-in-law; Debbie and Danielle.  In addition to her parents, Alice is preceded in death by her twin sons; Michael and Joseph, and brothers; Adolph and Frank Sablatura.

Alice was always active in music. As a youth, she sang with her father in the Hillje and Louise Catholic Churches for many services, weddings, and funerals.  She played clarinet in the Louise HS Band, the Louise Community Band and the Kresta Polka Band.  After High School graduation she received a music scholarship for W.C.J.C. and thus continued her music education. During her sophomore year at W.C.J.C. she was selected as "Outstanding Musician" and also won the "Texas Junior College Girl's State Debate Championship". Herfirst music teaching job was in Alvin, Texas. In 1963 she and her family moved to Ganado and she taught e years at the Assumption Catholic School, then 25 years in Edna ISD as an elementary music teacher and High School choir director. Her high school students won many region and state honors and also sweep stakes choir. Her last 2 years of music teaching were at Ganado ISD.  Alice and her husband Carl, have played the organ and directed the Assumption Catholic Church Choir for over 53 years.  They have sung at more than 100 weddings, and many funerals.  She has also directed the Jackson County Texans Chorus, the Catholic Life Insurance Convention Choir, the KJZT Convention Choir, and the Czech Heritage Mass Choir in Victoria, Texas. During her time in Ganado, she has served as President, Treasurer, and other offices in Delta Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; Regent and Treasurer of Catholic Daughters, also receiving the "Daughter of the Year Award."  For 22 years  she was Secretary and Treasurer of Catholic Life Insurance, BR #97, also President and Secretary of KJZT Society #43. She also served as Secretary of the local Texas Music Educator's Association and served on that state board of directors.

Visitation will be at the Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado, Thursday October 24, 2019 from 9:00 - 10:00 am with a rosary being recited at 9:30 am. Mass will following at 10:00 am, with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
