He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Lloyd Garland “Bully”Oakmon and Rowena Fields Oakmon. Bernard had a life-long dedication to serving his community. His enthusiasm for serving was rarely met with a rejection to a request. It was paramount for him to make sure help was readily available with successful results. First and foremost, he spent 30 years of service with the Ganado Volunteer Fire Department – 25 years at the helm as the Fire Chief, 25 years as a Jackson County Fair Board Member, 9 years of service with the Jackson County ESD #3, 8 years as an Instructor at Texas A&M University Fire School teaching about rescue and extrication, and in 2016 served as President of SFFMA Guadalupe Fire District. Bernard is survived by his aunts Alice Faye Oakmon-Lane, Nora Ann Oakmon and stepfather Jimmie Fowler, wife Paula Lesak-Scott, sons Damon Scott, Eric Scott, Caleb Gutierrez, daughters Marcie Gutierrez, Bethany Gutierrez, grandchildren Westin Scott, Paisley Scott, brothers Eric Troy Oakmon (Patricia), Zachary Shawn Oakmon, Sr. (Pamela), Jonathan Fowler (Lauren), and a host of family & friends.  A visitation will be held on Friday May 30, 2025, at the Ganado High School auditorium at 9:30am-11:00am with a funeral service beginning at 11:15am with Brother David Segura and Pastor Ruben Castillo officiating.  Interment to follow at Ganado Community Cemetery. Pallbearers are Trent Smith, Toby Dennis, Buster Chase, Craig King, Kirby Wilson, Paul Lesak, and Jason Harris.  Honorary pallbearers are Eric  Troy Oakmon, Zachary Shawn Oakmon, Sr. Jonathan Fowler, Damon Scott, Eric Scott, Caleb Gutierrez, Jalen Jury, Zachary Shawn Oakmon II, Elijah Jeremiah Oakmon, Michael Skalicky and all firefighters Chief Scott responded or worked with over the years.
