VICTORIA - Well, I finally did it. On December 21, 2021, I died. Not of Covid-19, either, but the other "Big C".
On September 13, 1946, I was welcomed on this earth into the loving arms of my mom, Ellen Venglar Kucera and John Kucera of LaSalle, Texas.
At twenty-four, I married my soul mate, Billie Franz Kucera. We have been inseparable for fifty-one years. To our union, we were blessed with a son, Troy Curtis (Romey), of Inez and Amy Thigpen (Darrell) of Port Lavaca. The Lord wasn't through with blessing us. He gave us grandchildren, Kagen Charles and Emma Faith Kucera, and Blake Allen and Megan Brooke Thigpen.
After I came to my senses, I got out of farming and started mechanic work for International Harvester in Edna, Texas, then for Superior Wireline in Victoria. After eight years, I started my own mechanic shop.
For entertainment, I played music and fished, and enjoyed my grandkids.
I guess you can say the Lord saved the best for last. Gone before me are my parents, brothers, Clarence, Herman, Larry, Billy Jo and sister, Mildred Hyde. My family is fortunate to have sisters-in-law Robbie of Sour Lake, and Linda of Wood-Hi.
My wishes are to be cremated, and a private celebration to be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Casual dress, country music, bar-b-que with trimmings and beverage of choice. Lots of laughter, no tears.
Memorial donations can be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 309, Inez, Texas 77968, or Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust, Victoria, Texas 77901.
Arrangements under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, Texas.
