On June 29th, Darlene May Evans succumbed to infection after two days in the hospital. She was 86 years old. For the past two years she had lived with us (her eldest daughter Jolene Mulligan and husband Kevin) in Edna, Texas. Having to leave her beloved home outside of Newport, Washington and her independent lifestyle due to increasing dementia, was very hard for her. She spent a lot of her time reading novels and watching the birds outside our living room window. She was an accomplished cribbage player and loved the opportunity to soundly beat her opponent, especially when that opponent was one of her five grown grandsons. She was also very fond of dominoes and loved when the family got together as we often do. I have often given God thanks for the privilege of having her with us; not that it was always easy, but we grew in our love towards each other. We shared laughter and tears. I will always be grateful for the memories. Mom's mother, Aletta Opsal Triber, and father, Aurthur Triber, preceded her in death; as well as siblings Lawrence, Delbert, Darel and LaVina Triber Lebahn. She is survived by her youngest brother Archie. Her loving husband, Joe Evans, died in 2017. They shared sixty years of marriage and had three children, Jolene Evans Mulligan and Kevin, David Evans and Amy, and Darsey Evans Schmirler and Daryl. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Phillip, Patrick, Kyle, Ryan and Justin Mulligan, Drew Savoia, and Naomi McNeal. She was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Ezra, Zack, Bekah, Cady, Graham, Millie, Bonnie, McKinly and Lincoln. We are all richer for having mom (grandma) in our lives.
