Tom, husband, father, Poppa, uncle and friend left this world after a valiant fight with cancer on May 19, 2021. He was born Frank Thomas Harrison, III on September 30, 1951 to Frankie and Carmel Harrison with a zeal for life, a voice unafraid of the opinion of others, a story ready to be told and a caring heart.
He loved farming and although he changed careers many years ago, he never quit running and repairing equipment and growing things. He often planted two gardens a year and was delighted to share the fruits of his efforts with anyone. The variety of plants he wanted to plant often led to a huge garden that the rest of his family was not thrilled with keeping free of weeds, watering, picking, etc. At their home in Morales, TX he planted more than 40 fruit and nut trees and was overjoyed when his grandsons picked mulberries and ate them straight off the bush. In addition to gardening, he tinkered with everything that ran. He worked with metal and wood. He really liked to collect tools he might need even if he might already have 2 or 3 of it on the shelf. His joy of tinkering has turned into a passion of woodworking for his two sons, Matthew and Jarred and the grandsons, Frank and Nicholas already show interest in carrying on the tradition.
In addition to plants, he loved animals and birds. Cows, horses, dogs, cats, squirrels were all welcomed, and he fed and watched from the windows when he was not outside. He particularly loved the cardinals and hummingbirds and kept seed and nectar available all year long.
He had two daughters, Jennifer Harrison, and Jessica McClintock, a granddaughter Noelle and a great grandson Lyrik. After marrying Celeste in 1998 she became the second mother of his two sons, Matthew and Jarred and they became a close-knit family. The love between Tom and Celeste could be felt by anyone around them. Looking towards retirement, Celeste and Tom moved to Morales, TX. Matthew is married to Amanda, and they have two sons, Frank, IV and Nicholas.
Tom came from a large family of Harrisons and Slivas once from Matagorda County and now branching across Texas and beyond. Tom was touched by the support of his sisters Melissa and (Elliott), and Mary, and his brothers George (Donna), and Hurschel and all their families, the family of his departed sister Barbara (Pat), and all his extended family as he was inflicted by cancer. His Mom, Carmel and Dad, Frankie as well as uncles and aunts were always missed and often brought into one of his many stories. Tom was privileged to have many friends and he cared about everyone of them, two of his friends, Pat, and Billy, held a special place in his heart.
Tom will be missed by all of those whose heart he touched.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service to honor Tom's life on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church at 102 W. Church Street in Edna, Texas.
Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St. Edna, TX 77957
