James Ray Raz, 79, of Ganado, Texas, passed peacefully in his sleep on December 12, 2025. Preceded in death by his brother Richard Raz and Mom and Dad, Jim & Louise Raz.
James was known lovingly as Dad, Pops, Pawpaw, and Olo, and he lived his life with kindness, honesty, and a steady devotion to those he loved. He believed in showing up, and he did so faithfully, offering quiet support, encouragement, and pride in the people around him.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found true joy in being part of their lives. From football Friday nights to dance recitals and band marching competitions, James was a constant presence in the stands, always cheering them on with a smile. He treasured the everyday moments as much as the big ones, creating memories filled with laughter, encouragement, and love.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling, and he valued good company and simple pleasures. He also cherished time spent visiting family and gathering together whenever possible. One of his favorite sayings, “There’s nothing finer than an ice-cold Shiner,” reflected his easygoing nature and appreciation for life’s small joys.
He is survived by his sons, Jim “Bo” Raz (Perri), and James Raz Jr (Julie). Grandchildren, Wesley Demicelli, Sara Demicelli Adams, Briana Raz Vanderbilt, Maddie Raz, and Kyle Raz. Great grandchildren, Ella Vanderbilt and Dani & Karlee Demicelli.
James will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his dependability, and the love he showed through his actions. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 17, 2025, at 11:00am at First Methodist Church of Ganado with Pastor Paul Beard officiating.
Donations can be made in his name to Crown Hospice or First Methodist Church of Ganado.
Services are entrusted to the Todish family of Ganado & Slavik Funeral Homes.
