John R. Pratka, Jr. 80, of Edna passed away on December 10, 2022, he was born in Robstown, Texas on January 20, 1942 to John R. Pratka, Sr. and Janie Prochaska Pratka.
He leaves behind one sister, Viola Talbot (John Michael); two brothers, David (Mary Ann) Pratka and Martin (Sharon) Pratka; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as dear friend Paula Kimbrough of Kossee, Texas.
John graduated from Edna High School in1960 and from the University of St. Thomas in Houston in 1964. He held several degrees in Education Administration and counseling. Those degrees were put to beneficial use as he worked in various roles in Catholic Schools across the state of Texas. He was also a certified drug and alcohol counselor and worked in this role in the San Antonio area. He was well known for the generosity and kindness he bestowed upon everyone he met. Family and his Czech heritage were particularly important to him. He hosted many family reunions and became somewhat of an expert in genealogy. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Saturday, January 14, 2023, beginning with visitation from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Rosary being recited at 9:30 am, followed by Mass at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
