Juanita "Janie" Navarrete Obituary

Juanita “Janie” Navarrete, age 87, of Ganado, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

She was born on February 9, 1938, in Olivia, Texas, to the late Sylvester and Celia Morales. Janie made her home in Ganado, where she lovingly raised her four children.

Janie had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures — she never missed her soaps and novellas, found joy in tending to her plants and flowers, and loved sitting outside watching the birds. She especially cherished visits from hummingbirds and cardinals. A devoted Houston Astros fan, she rarely missed a game. But above all, Janie dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her the greatest joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Celia Morales; her beloved daughter, Sylvia De Los Santos; and her brothers Marcus, Frank, Larry, Alex, and Pete Morales.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Jesse Morales; sisters Mary Zamora, Martha Morales, and Diana Morales; sons Rey De Los Santos and Rene De Los Santos (wife Starla); daughter Hope Rodriguez (husband Joe); grandchildren Tracy Rodriguez, Cassi De Los Santos, Kalene Kucera (husband Caleb), Amber Ortiz, Chelsea De Los Santos, and Gabriel Avalos; and great-grandchildren Madison and Delayni Villarreal, Jaren Jackson, Zayden Kothmann, and Meryn, Remy, and Ivory Kucera.

Janie will be remembered for her kind heart, her love of family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Greg Korenek officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rey De Los Santos, Larry Morales, Anthony Morales, Frank Morales, Dwayne Hinojosa, Ruben Castillo, and Elton Callis. Services are entrusted to the Todish family of Ganado & Slavik Funeral Homes.
