Karen Hahn Obituary

Karen Lynn Chytka Hahn, of Ganado, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the age of 85.  She was born on January 12, 1938 in Jackson County, Texas to the late John Chytka and Irene Chytka Hardin.

She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Billy Hahn, on March 24, 1956. Tthis was prior to Billy leaving for the Army in Glenhausen, Germany.  After Karen graduated from Ganado High School in May 1956, she joined Billy in Germany where he completed his second year of military service.  After returning from Germany, Karen began working for Ganado Independent High School District where she served for 30 years before her retirement.

Karen was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church, serving on the Committees of WELCA, Worship, Cool, Altar Guild and many behind the scenes services.,  Karen was a woman of many talents, sewing, drawing, painting, crafting, cooking and decorating.  Karen was a very hard worker and a beloved family Matriarch, she will be missed by all who knew her, but never ever will she be forgotten.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, John Chytka and Irene Chytka Hardin, her step-father, Samuel Hardin, and he beloved husband of 63 years, Billy Hahn.  Her surviving family includes her son Monty Hahn and his wife Jackie of Medina; daughter, Sheri Hahn Hicks and her husband Tommy of Ganado, grandchildren Justin Hahn and his wife Dana of Kerrville, Zachary Hahn of San Antonio, Erin Hahn of Fort Worth, Preston Hicks of Ganado, and Derek Hicks of Katy.  Great-Grandchildren are Cullen Hahn, Cora Hahn and Heidi Hicks.  Cherished brothers are Craig Hardin and his wife Sherrie and Robert Hardin and his wife Becky, all of El Campo,  Karen dearly loved all her family, and that included nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Church Family at St. James Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers to serve will be; Erin Hahn, Zachary Hahn, Justin Hahn, Derek Hahn, Preston Hahn, Kenny Lilie and Callen Hajovsky, honorary pallbearers will be; Craig Hardin, Robert Hardin, Glen Hahn, Lynn Hahn, Glen Lilie, Lloyd Nelson, Eric Nelson, Russell Pruitt and Russell Hahn.

There will be a visitation on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 7th at 10:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church in Ganado with Pastor Rosemarie Doucette officiating, interment will follow at Ganado Cemetery.
