Mary Margarette Rasmussen, 104, passed away Tuesday February 18, 2024. She was born on December 6, 1920, in Bastrop, Texas to George and Barbara Steedley. She married Chester Byrul Rasmussen on October 12, 1939, and they were happily married for 56 years. Mary was a Registered Nurse who was employed by Nightingale Hospital in El Campo where she worked in the nursey with all the sweet babies. She loved birds-especially Canarys--she and her sister raised them for about 4 years. Many memories will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be remembered as a woman with a strong Faith in God. She put her family first and loved helping others. Mary is survived by her daughter Wilma Hajek; grandchildren Gretchen Dodds (Craig), Laya Clowers (Shane) and Erica Rasmussen; great-grandchildren Dustin Dodds (Leah), Paige Storey (Ethan) and Whitni Clowers; and great-great-grandchildren Abigail Dodds, Jack Dodds, Madelynn Storey and Thomas Storey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester Byrul Rasmussen; sons Chester Jr. and Glenn Lester; and infant daughter Linda. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 25, 2025, at 10:30am at Slavik Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow at El Campo Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers are Craig Dodds, Shane Clowers, Dustin Dodds and Ethan Storey. Services are entrusted to the Todish family of Slavik and Ganado Funeral Homes.
