Mason Edward Galow, 87, left this world on Thursday, April 17, 2025, next to his loving wife.
Mason and Edith were married on March 16, 1958, and spent 67 loving years together. Mason and Edith’s beautiful family began with their three daughters: Jennifer Brown (Andy), Annette Wied (Jeff), and Delinda Gresham (Vernon). Over the years, they welcomed six grandchildren: Andrew Brown (Tracie), Cindy Rosalez (Josh), Blake Wied (Misty), Stacie Klein, Wesley Gresham (Becky), and Megan Burow (Gary). Mason and Edith had eighteen great grandchildren: Camry, Lily, and Haley Brown; Joshua Jr (Nelly), Ashton, and Jacob Rosalez; Grace and Luke Wied; Hannah Klein; John and Reed Stedje, Emma, Leland and Reaghan Gresham; and Emileigh, Carlee, Dixon, and Lee Ropyr Burow. The youngest of their family is Khloe Rosalez and Moses Martinez, their great, great grandchildren.
Mason was born on September 17, 1937, at the Galow homeplace, to Otto Emil and Emma Meier Galow. Mason was the youngest of eight siblings and is survived by Leona Owaski and Ruth Stephenson. He was preceded in death by Oscar Galow, Louis Galow, Leonard Galow, Viola Webernick, and Norma Johnson.
Mason grew up in Ganado, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. He spent his life as a devoted father and husband. When he wasn’t caring for his family, he spent his days outside as a farmer rancher. He was not known as one to sit still for very long and stayed busy through his years. In his younger years, Mason worked at the El Campo Livestock Commission before being hired at Alcoa. Mason was employed at Alcoa for 36 years as a pipefitter, while serving on the Ganado ISD School Board, the Jackson County Fair Board, and the St. James Lutheran Church Council. After he retired, he stayed even busier caring for his cattle, farming with the Skalicky family during harvest season, and working on his list of never-ending Honey-dos.
Though his contributions to his family and community were many, listing his accomplishments and interests can only paint a very small picture of the genuine and honest man that he was. He was trustworthy and dependable, straightforward but always kind, patient, and caring. Mason always thought of others, and everyone knew when it was harvesting time in the garden. Mason was always happy to shower others with fresh vegetables, oranges, lemons, and a multitude of zucchini. He always made sure that everyone had eaten, and no one went without.
Mason and Edith began the early part of their marriage living in El Campo and Plainview, finally settling in their home near Lake Texana, where they continued to raise their daughters and welcome their grandchildren. They lived there until 2000, before moving back to the Galow home place to live out their years. Moving back to the homeplace and closer to his cows, saved Mason a lot of money on gas and on Dairy Queen. When his grandchildren were young, he taught them that singing Yankee Doodle Dandy was currency for a soft-serve cone at Dairy Queen. Any time his grandkids started singing, his Ford would turn into the drive through, no matter how old they had gotten.
Mason was strong, patient, loving, kind, and often quietly helped and supported others with no thought of recognition. There are no words to truly describe the husband, father, grandfather, and friend that he was. He had a heart of gold and was loved and respected by all.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday April 22, 2025, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Ganado Funeral Home chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 23, 2025, at 10:00am at St. James Lutheran Church in Ganado, Texas with interment to follow at Ganado City Cemetery.
