Rebecca “Becky” Jo Hanys (Murray), 85, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many, passed peacefully on February 26, 2025. She was surrounded by loved ones in the moments leading up to her passing.
Becky grew up on Ratcliffe Road in Cuero, Texas, a place that remained near and dear to her heart all her life. She was an elementary school teacher who shared her joy, wonder and curiosity with many children. She was an active member of the Wharton First United Methodist Church and the Edna First United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club. She was a skilled artist who loved to use her gifts in service of others, in classrooms and in church sanctuaries.
Becky had a big heart for helping others. She loved fiercely, was a great listener and a genuine friend and companion. She loved sunsets, wildflowers, dancing, playing card games, reading and sharing stories with her loved ones.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Rebecca Murray, her brother David Lafayette Murray, and her beloved husband Leroy Hanys. She is survived by her sister Jackie Murray, her brother Dale Murray (wife: Becky), her son Eric Hanys (wife: Jill), her daughter Jana Pattillo (husband: Drew) and her grandchildren Shane Braddy, Elliot Steele (fiancé: Braiden), Sydney Pattillo, Ashley Pattillo, Hannah Pattillo and Kaylee Hanys, who know her lovingly as “B,” and great-grandchildren Chandler and Carver.
A visitation in her honor will be held on Sunday, March 2nd from 3:00-4:30pm at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel (209 N Allen St. Edna, Texas). A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Monday, March 3rd at Rabke Cemetery in Yorktown, Texas.
